Batting cages are taking shape
The structural part of our new batting cages has taken shape. The facility needs to be cleaned out and finished off with turf and netting. "Hopefully we can get to that next week, during spring break," Coach Harriss said.
In the fall of 2009, in our first PSO Advisory Board meeting, our agenda included a dream. We were dreaming BIG: Our hope was to convince the LeToureau University to build a batting cage complex at Conrad-Vernon Field for the Baseball program.
At the time we had no money and no support for such a project beyond our players, parents and coaches, Robin and Aaron.
The exciting news is that construction is underway and — weather permitting — our batting cage facility will be standing by the middle of February, perhaps in time for our opening series February 12-13! Though we know this is an aggressive expectation, we must keep dreaming and pushing hard to meet our goals for Jacket Baseball.
So far we have raised $53,000 for the project and much thanks needs to go to everyone who has played a role whether in donations, gathering construction information, physical labor or just making phone calls to help. We are grateful to each of you for your help.
LETU has started Phase 1, which is the construction of the facility itself. Phase 2 will require a bit more funding and will add electricity and lighting to the complex. For this, we need approximately $5,000-$10,000 more. If you’d like to help us finish Phase 2, please visit our donations page. We have more to do, but isn’t it exciting to have come this far???
We have labeled 2010 Jacket Baseball as “A Season to Remember.” Our hope is to follow the achievement of our Batting Cages with a berth in the Playoffs in the American Southwest Conference making this season not only one to remember — but one we will never forget!!
See you at the ballpark in February and remember…..GO JACKETS!!!
9/3 UPDATE: Dugout fencing is in place thanks to a generous donation from one of our PSO parents. The project to help protect players was a quick, fairly inexpensive way to show progress for the program. Dugout fencing was installed over the summer of 2009 and will enhance the safety of LETU players, opposing players and coaches while in the dugout.
